Experience/Training:
Educated at the universities of Kent and Bristol,
where he read English and American Literature, and did an M.Phil by
research, Dougie Blaxland has been writing plays for small professional
companies, schools and amateur dramatic groups for ten years. Together
with actor, Trevor Cuthbertson, he was co-founder of Hemingways
Emporium. More recently he has written plays for Time Gentlemen, and
Badlands Theatre Company. Winner of 2004 best short play in New
Plays.co.uk Festival
Moving in and Taking Over was the winner of 2004 Pomegranate New
Playwrights Festival, and the New Plays UK Best Short Play 2004. She’s
Gone Then was one of the winners of the Pomegranate New Playwrights
Festival 2006, and Leaving Samson was runner-up in the New Plays UK
competition 2005.
Dougie’s work has been produced at venues such as The Kings Head,
Islington; The Rondo, Bath; The Ustinov Studio, Bath; The Burrell
Theatre, Truro; The Lane Theatre, Newquay; The Driftwood Spars, St
Agnes; Truro High School, The Royal High School, Bath and Falmouth Arts
Centre.
Dougie
is now running the new writers’ course at The Rondo Theatre Bath, and
is also responsible for selecting new writing for First Draft Theatre
Company in
London
.
