Angela Hornby

Born: 1983

Based: Manchester

Work Sought: Open minded!!!

Theatrical Experience/Training:

Angela found her flair for writing whilst in a workshop with the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, in association with her Theatre Studies A Level at Altrincham Girls' Grammar School. The outcome was the first of three short plays, ‘Deafening Silence’, which went on to win the Write Now 2000! Competition at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre.

Having been involved with the acting side of theatre since the tender age of eight, performing in musicals such as ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’, appearing in many plays for youth and adult theatre and taking leading roles like ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Aladdin’ in pantomimes, Angela wanted to try something different, following in the footsteps of her talented father, writer and co-founder of The Playwrights' Co-operative, Ian Hornby.

Having completed her honours degree in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, she further took an interest in Sign Language and became very enthusiastic about writing for the disabled, especially the deaf - this is what spurred on her dissertation piece which was a dramatic script.

She is now looking to write more scripts, and is especially interested in creating more material for children and the disabled. Watch this space! We are certain you will be seeing more from her soon!
